Two US Navy patrol ships on Wednesday passed through the Suez Canal into the Red Sea to join the buildup of American forces in the Gulf region ahead of a possible war on Iraq, according to port sources, cited by AFP.

The two ships are the Chinook and Firebolt whose main mission is coastal patrol and interdiction surveillance, said the sources in the Mediterranean port at the northern end of the canal. (Albawaba.com)
