US to Provide $330,000 in Grant Assistance to Jordan for Environmental Protection

The United States and Jordan singed Monday a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for an agreement to provide $330,000 to assist the Jordanian government in strengthening municipal solid and hazardous waste management. 

According to a pres release by the US embassy in Amman, the grant will be provided through the Resource Cities Program and will allow Des Moines, Iowa on the one hand and Greater Amman and the General Corporation for Environmental Protection (GCEP) on the other to link and share experiences, information and solutions to common problems in this field. 

The MoU was signed by a representative from the City Memorandum of Des Moines through the International City County Memorandum Association (ICMA), and the Mayor of Greater Amman, Nidal Al Hadid. The Memorandum of Understanding was also signed by Fares Al Junaidi, GCP Managing Director, on behalf of the Minister of Municipal, Rural and Environmental Affairs. 

Mission Director of the US Agency for International Development (USAID) in Jordan, Toni Christiansen-Wagner, witnessed the signing of the agreement. 

Under the agreement, the US will provide funding and assistance to facilitate the exchange of teams composed of local government officials, city managers, mayors and department heads.
