A senior United States State Department official says it is still too soon to declare the Kobani battle a victory, writes Reuters.
"About 90 percent of the town has been retaken and [Daesh militants], whether on order or the fact that they are just breaking ranks, are withdrawing from the town," the official told reporters, adding that the number of [Daesh] fighters killed in the fighting in Kobani "is in the four figures."
Just yesterday it was announced the Kurdish militia has driven Daesh out of the Syrian border town of Kobani after months of heavy fighting.
"The (Kurdish) People's Protection Units have almost full control over Kobani after expelling [Daesh] fighters," the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights told AFP.
Just last week fighters from the People’s Protection Units (YPG) retook a strategic hilltop position known as Mishte-ur.
As a result of the violence, more than 200,000 Kobani residents have also fled across the border into Turkey.
