US secretary of state Colin Powell is due to meet on Friday Palestinian representative Nabil Shaath, in addition to his previously scheduled Friday meeting with Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Saud al-Faisal.
The talks are expected to continue to deal with ideas for advancing the Bush administration's three-part strategy in the Middle East, state department spokesman Philip Reeker said, according to KUNA.
That strategy consists of an "effective Palestinian security performance, renewing a serious political process that aims at the two-state solution that the president and others have talked about, and responding to humanitarian needs of the Palestinian people and building strong, responsible Palestinian institutions in preparation for Palestinian statehood," Reeker said in a state department briefing.
