The woman in question, identitfied as Sgt. Nargis, a mother of four with no criminal record, walked into a high security compound on Monday to kill the American civilian with a single bullet to the chest.

"Our investigation shows that Nargis is an Iranian national. After her marriage to an Afghan, she managed to obtain an Afghan ID illegally and joined the police," a spokesman for the Afghan interior ministry told reporters in Kabul.

Insider attacks by those within the Afghan police forces have increased this year but Nargis if the first example of a woman carrying out such an crime. The shooting has undermined the Afghan government's security process as the shooter was thought to have obtained Afghan citizenship illegally.
