A bomb went off near a U.S. military convoy in Baghdad, killing one U.S. soldier and wounding another, the U.S. military said Thursday.
Elsewhere, heavy gunfire and blasts were heard Thursday in the holy city of Karbala, where US forces attacked fighters loyal to Shiite leader Muqtada al-Sadr. Black smoke rose from the city center, The AP reported.
