The US State Department warned of a "potenital imminent threat against US citizens," in and around Jeddah, Saudi ARabia.

A security message forwarded from the US Embassy in Jeddah on Thursday warned US citizens to "be aware of their surroundings an take extra precautions when traveling throughout the country," and to carefully "consider the risks of traveling to Saudi Arabia."

The security message warned of places in Jeddah "frequented by Westerners, such as markets, restaurants, and shopping malls, among others."

The US has had a travel warning against Saudi Arabia since last April. State Department spokesperson John Kirby clarified that the warning "doesn't tell them not to go, but advised them of the potential for security issues there and to be vigilant as they travel."
