Bahrain has pledged to crack down vandals after seven vehicles were torched in what was described as one of the largest arson attacks in the kingdom's history late Sunday. According to press reports masked men set the vehicles on fire early at a compound housing some 200 Asian expatriate workers in Bahrain. No injuries were reported among the workers, who are employed by a construction company.
Bahraini police secured the area in Sitra, south of the capital Manama.
"Police patrols are well armed and well equipped to meet all dangers and challenges menacing their lives and those of citizens," Interior Minister Shaikh Rashid bin Abdulla Al Khalifa was quoted as saying on Monday.
