The Vatican signed its first accord with Palestine after recognizing it as a state, AFP reported Friday.

The Catholic governing body recognized Palestine as a state two years ago and agreed on signing an accord last month, a move that Israel condemned as a setback for the peace process.

The treaty acknowledges the "life and activity" of the Church in Palestine, according to AFP.
