There can be no forward movement on the Iraqi impasse until the government accepts the implementation of UN resolution 1284, and agrees to cooperate on disarmament, French Foreign Minister, Hubert Vedrine said Thursday, reported Kuwait News Agency (KUNA).

Vedrine said that "France tells Iraq this whenever the opportunity arises."

"The Iraqi authorities must accept to cooperate with United Nations Monitoring, Observation and Verification Commission (UNMOVIC) on the basis of resolution 1284," he added.

Resolution 1284 calls on Iraq to resume cooperation on dismantling its prohibited weapons of mass destruction.

Iraq has refused to accept resolution 1284, a position that has isolated Baghdad, and has prevented any move to ease sanctions imposed on the country after it invaded Kuwait in 1990, said the agency - Albawaba.com
