A Malaysian judge will deliver his verdict Tuesday in the sodomy trial of ex-deputy premier Anwar Ibrahim, defense lawyer Sankara Nair said Monday.

Sankara told AFP he received a faxed notice from the High Court stating that Judge Arifin Jaka would deliver his verdict at 9.30 am (0130 GMT). A high court official confirmed the date.

Last Thursday, a day before the verdict was originally due to be delivered, Arifin announced that he had postponed it because his judgment was not ready.

The delay was announced amid plans for a mass protest last Friday by Anwar's supporters. The government denied any role in the postponement.
