ALBAWABA - The Iranian army announced Wednesday shooting down an American drone over Bushehr province, according to Fars News Agency.
The Iranian news agency said that a U.S. drone flying over Jam city in Bushehr province was destroyed by Iranian defenses.
The agency stated that the downing took place over the airspace of the city located in southern Iran, without providing further details regarding the circumstances of the incident or the means used to shoot down the aircraft.
On the other side, the U.S. military has not issued any official comment regarding these reports or whether the downed aircraft belonged to American forces.
The New York Times quoted a U.S. official who said that initial assessments indicate most of the Iranian attacks were intercepted, and there were no reports of damage, casualties, or injuries.
A video circulated online by Iran's Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB) claimed to show the moment a U.S. MQ9 drone was destroyed by Iranian air defenses.
U.S. President Donald Trump said the United States will respond after confirming that Iran shot down a U.S. Army AH-64 Apache helicopter operating near the Strait of Hormuz.
"The pilots are fine. Yeah. Nobody injured. We are going to issue a report tomorrow. But the pilots are fine," Trump said, adding that the aircraft had been downed in what he described as an Iranian attack.
Hours following the announcement, the U.S. launched airstrikes against Tehran. In response, Iran targeted American bases in Bahrain, Kuwait and Jordan.
