Virgin Megastore Shoppers Score Middle East’s First Motorola ROKR E1 Handsets

Music lovers at Virgin Megastore outlets across the UAE are the first in the Middle East and North Africa region to score the new iTunes phone, the Motorola, Inc. (NYSE: MOT) ROKR E1. With four outlets in Dubai and Abu Dhabi plus a new store launching soon in Mall of the Emirates, Virgin Megastore was deemed the ideal entertainment-centric retail partner to commercially launch the Motorola ROKR E1.

“The Moto ROKR E1 is the world’s first phone that holds more than just a conversation, and in the UAE, Virgin Megastore is the premier supporter of both recorded and live entertainment.  With this natural fit between the iTunes handset and Virgin Megastore’s customer base, we anticipate that the ROKR will fly off the shelves from now through the holiday season,” said Patrick Mulligan, Area Director for Motorola´s Mobile Devices Business.

For the next week, Virgin Megastore shoppers can view live demonstrations of the ROKR E1 from trained staff and listen firsthand to the phone’s surround sound quality speakers.  The ROKR enables music lovers in the Middle East to transfer up to 50 of their favorite songs from the iTunes jukebox on their Mac or PC to their mobile phone.

“As a one-stop shop for the very coolest music-related merchandise, Virgin Megastore is delighted to be the first in the Middle East to offer its customers the Motorola ROKR E1.  Consumers want to carry their music with them while remaining connected to friends and fellow fans, so the ROKR is an ideal mobile for our customer base,” said Jean Claude Torbey, regional director, Virgin Megastore, Middle East & North Africa.

Since its global launch in September, the Motorola ROKR has caused an industry sensation, boosted by a branding campaign featuring musical giants such as Madonna, Alanis Morrissette, Little Richard, and Iggy Pop.

The Motorola ROKR E1 features easy to use menus, simple navigation and playback, and the ability to simply switch from listening to music to talking on the phone and back again with the push of a dedicated music key. The iTunes handset also features a color display for viewing album art, dual built-in stereo speakers and stereo headphones that also serve as a mobile headset with microphone. Music fans can randomly autofill or manually fill the mobile phone with playlists of their favorite music, audiobooks and Podcasts from their iTunes library via a USB connection. The Motorola ROKR E1 pauses music automatically when users take a call and offers the ability to listen to music while checking messages or snapping a photo.
