MPs of the ruling Nepali Congress (NC) started voting Sunday for a new parliamentary leader, who will automatically become the new prime minister, state-run radio said.
Former prime minister Girija Prasad Koirala resigned Thursday after mounting dissatisfaction over his tenure.
Party sources said Sher Bahadur Deuba, a former prime minister, and NC general secretary Shushil Koirala were the only candidates for the post.
The result of the voting was expected to be announced after 5:00 P.M. (1015 GMT), parliamentary sources said.
