Voting temporarily halted in Pakistan's Tank district

ALBAWABA - An attack was reported on election staff in Pakistan leading to the death of a security personnel in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, Anadolu Agency reported on Thursday.

Pakistani police said that voting was temporarily halted at a polling station in Tank district due to the attack. 

Yesterday Pakistan was rocked with two separate explosions, killing dozens of people and injuring several others. 

The first blast was reported also near the headquarters of a political party, leading to the death of at least 12 people.

A second explosion took place in Qillah Saif Ullah district, about 150km (93 miles) away. 

The explosions one day before Pakistan was ready to hold parliamentary elections on Feb. 8, 2024, where 128 million Pakistanis will get to elect their country’s next government, and also the legislatures of the nation’s four provinces.

 

On Thursday, voting began in Pakistan with millions of people are heading to the poll stations to cast their ballots.  

 

Pakistani government announced suspending mobile services across the country during elections and clarified that the measure is "to maintain law and order."
