Countdown to 2010 Ryder Cup Well and Truly On
With a little over a year to go before Wales proudly plays host to the 2010 Ryder Cup, the preparations are already at an advanced stage, says organisers.
From October 1 – 3 October next year, the renowned Celtic Manor Resort on the outskirts of Newport in South Wales will welcome the best golfers from Europe and the US, as they compete for one of the biggest prizes in world sport – The Ryder Cup.
“For those intending to travel to the Ryder Cup 2010, there are a range of wonderful golf courses within a two hour drive of Celtic Manor. From the challenging links at world-famous Royal Porthcawl to the beautiful setting of St Pierre Hotel & Country Club, golfers will be spoilt for choice in one of the most naturally beautiful areas of Britain,” said Carol Maddison, VisitBritain Marketing Manager, UAE.
Other courses that will appeal to visitors include The Glamorganshire Golf Club, Ashburnham Golf Club, and Tenby Golf Club situated on the Pembrokeshire coast.
An important element of every Ryder Cup is the legacy that the tournament leaves behind for future generations of golfers. Wales is no exception and it is hoped that more people will be introduced to the game of golf over the next few years – a direct result of Ryder Cup 2010 at Celtic Manor. Over 200 new golf holes will be created across Wales in the coming years, benefitting local communities and encouraging greater participation in golf for years to come.
“Newport, with all its beautiful surroundings, such as the Wye Valley and Forest of Dean makes for a great getaway for Gulf-based holiday makers attending the Ryder Cup 2010,” commented Maddison.
“Travelers can also enjoy the city centre which provides urban excitement through numerous activities, performances, and exhibitions held at The Riverfront Theatre and the Arts Centre,” added Maddison.
