Wataniya Airways, Kuwait's premium service airline, today launched scheduled services to the magical Austrian capital, Vienna, with an inaugural flight from Sheikh Saad Terminal to Vienna International airport.

To help celebrate the new bridge between Kuwait and Austria, Wataniya Airways transformed Sheikh Saad Terminal into a celebration venue for this occasion, with Austrian and Kuwaiti flags around the building. Guests were welcomed by hosts dressed in Austrian national costume and were offered coffee and traditional apple strudel pastries and other canapés while being entertained by a concert pianist with music from Mozart, Haydn and Strauss, who all lived and composed music in the city.

The launch was attended by the Austrian State Minister of Finance, Dr. Reinhold Lapatka , His Excellency the Ambassador of Austria, Mr. Marian Wrba, Wataniya Airways Chairman and Managing Director, Abdulsalam Al Bahr, Chief Executive Officer, George Cooper as well as senior members of the Wataniya Airways executive management team.

Vienna is Wataniya Airways' eleventh destination and the second European destination city after Istanbul, since the launch of the airline's scheduled operations in January 2009. The premium service carrier will run three weekly scheduled flights scheduled to Vienna, on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays. All flights will be from Wataniya Airways' exclusive Sheikh Saad Terminal to Vienna International Airport, with convenient daytime flight times.

Vienna is one of the world's most attractive tourist cities and has recently been voted the world's top city for quality of living for the fifth year running. It is also world famous for its musical culture, of exquisite Sacher Torte, great coffee, pastries and architectural heritage, which include Opera House, St. Stephen's Cathedral, the Hofburg Imperial Palace and the elegant Ringstraße, a road which boasts an impressive array of Vienna's major sites, such as the Burgtheater Imperial Court Theatre and the City Hall.

Vienna also represents an efficient transit point to other cities in the region, especially with the convenient arrival timing of Wataniya Airways' flights at 2:05 PM.
