Israeli troops killed a member of the armed wing of Fatah movement in the West Bank on Thursday, Palestinian security and hospital officials said. According to Reuters, a Palestinian security official said the man was shot dead by undercover forces operating near the West Bank city of Jenin.
The official said the man had been a member of the Palestinian national security force, but recently joined the Al-Aqsa Martyrs' Brigades, and was wanted by Israel.
An Israeli spokeswoman confirmed a special police force operating near Jenin shot a gunman who attempted to fire at them.
Also Thursday, Palestinian gunners in the Gaza Strip fired a rocket at the western Negev, Israel Radio reported. According to the report, the Israel Air Force targeted the rocket launchers, and Palestinian sources reported one Palestinian was wounded in the strike.
