A white farmer has been shot dead and his son injured in an attack on their farm at Kwekwe, southeast of Harare, the white farmers' association CFU said on Wednesday.
Henry Elsworth and his son Ian were ambushed by a lone gunman when they returned to their farm at about 6.00 pm (1600 GMT) on Tuesday evening, CFU deputy director Malcolm Vowles said.
"As they stopped at the farm gate, a gunman opened fire with a semi-automatic weapons. Ian Elsworth, who was driving was shot five times.
"After Ian got out the car and collapsed, his father Henry who had been shot at least once, staggered around to the driver's side to attempt to start the car. He was shot in the stomach and died 15 minutes later."
He added that Ian Elsworth was in a stable condition.
He said the CFU had no information on the killer and refused to say whether the murder could be attributed to the ongoing occupations of white-owned farms by squatters, in which four white farmers have already been killed -- HARARE (SAFP)
