WHO Hails UAE Herbal Project Activities

The World Health Organization (WHO) has hailed the activities of the Zayed Herbal Research Complex and proposed it as a location for a WHO regional collaborating center for traditional medicine. 

 

Dr. Xiaorui Zhang, acting coordinator for Traditional Medicine in WHO stated he was impressed with the research activities going on at the complex. 

 

Dr. Zhang, who is currently visiting the United Arab Emirates, toured the center and met with its director Dr. Mazen Naji.  

 

He later discussed cooperation between WHO and the health ministry at a meeting with Dr. Abdul Ghaffar Abdul Ghafour, assistant undersecretary for curative medicine. 

 

Dr. Zhang spoke to the research and medical staff at Zayed Complex regarding the issue of 'Research Methodology of Herbal Medicines', according to Gulf News

 

During the course of the lecture, he clarified the various aspects of traditional and Western medicine. Information on research going on in different centers for evaluation of traditional medicine on malaria and tumor cells was also presented. 

 

Furthermore, Dr. Zhang spoke at the Abu Dhabi Psychiatric Hospital on 'Global Review on the use of Traditional, Complementary and Alternative Medicine and WHO Strategy'. 

 

He is also due to hold further meetings at the health ministry Sunday involving officials from the international health department, private medical licensing department, pharmacy department and office of complementary and alternative medicine. (Albawaba.com)
