Why has Iran detained an American oil tanker in the Gulf of Oman?

ALBAWABA- The Public Relations of the Iranian Army Navy states that Iranian naval forces have detained an American oil tanker within the waters of the Gulf of Oman, acting by a judicial decision. 

The tanker, named "Suez Rajan," is claimed to have been stolen by the United States last year. Ship tracking data reportedly shows the tanker moving to the U.S. coast and unloading its cargo.

 The United States, allegedly renaming the tanker to Nicholas ST, was said to be transporting oil in the Gulf of Oman.

Iranian forces tracked down the tanker and transported it to Iranian ports for detention.

The company owning the hijacked ship in Oman Bay reveals that 19 sailors on board were Greek, and 18 were Filipinos.
