Despite ongoing rumors, UK group Oasis did not announce the group’s breakup upon the conclusion of their European tour, reported ABC online.
British tabloids had reported that the final show of the band’s tour, a 90-minute set before an audience of 40,000 at the Carling Festival in Leeds Monday night, would be followed by a press conference today disclosing the decision to split.
But the band’s public relations officers rebuffed such scuttlebutt. “There will be no press conference, and we are not aware of a statement,” a British representative for Oasis told the BBC.
However, the rumors are not completely unwarranted, according to ABC.
Relations within the Oasis camp, typically unstable during even the best of times, have been especially rocky this summer. On May 22, guitarist and songwriter Noel Gallagher walked off the band’s European tour, insisting he needed a break from his brother’s ego, and saying he would never perform with the band outside of the British Isles again.
Later in the tour, two Noel-less shows by the group, on July 26 in Switzerland and on Aug. 7 in Portugal, were cut short when the band stormed offstage after being pelted with objects thrown by audience members.
Assuming Oasis does continue to soldier on as a unit, fans can start looking forward to new material from Noel, who says he’s just overcome a year-and-a-half-long bout with writer’s block. He told UK tabloid The Sun that his new ditty is titled “Survival.” “It contains four chords and 19 words, and it just repeats itself over and over again… it’s punk rock, man,” said the guitarist-Albawaba.com.
