Israeli analysts warned that Ariel Sharon’s plans might continue to ignite the situation at the borders with Syria, Lebanon and even Egypt in order to begin the implementation of his plans of mass transfer of Palestinians to Lebanon, Jordan and Gaza.
The Jordanian political analyst, Sultan al Hattab, thinks the Israeli warning is somewhat true particularly in view of the fact that Sharon is facing real crisis now. According to Hattab, Sharon is spurred to export his crisis by launching an aggression outside the borders through claiming that armed groups cross the borders as a justification for the attack.
“I believe Sharon has put the whole region under fire and bloodshed for his brutal and disastrous aggression against the Palestinians, which has paralyzed the Arab regimes and crippled them from taking any actions that would stop him,” said Hattab.
He added, “the Arabs failure to stop Sharon or press the US to stop his aggression may aggravate tension among the public and therefore lead to more radicalism. This way more radical groups will emerge in the Arab world in order to prove that they still exist and lead to a situation where the Arab regimes will not be able to control violence or meet the aspirations of their people. Therefore I believe if Sharon continues with his aggression against the Palestinians, the fragile situation in the Arab world will explode in the forthcoming summer.”
Hattab indicated that nothing could prevent Sharon from going ahead with his transfer plan which has been on top of his agenda but was frozen due to the fact that the Arab countries to which the Palestinians would be forced to go signed peace agreements with Israel. “Sharon destroyed Oslo accord and it won’t be a surprise if he destroys the peace agreements with other Arab countries,” added Hattab.
On the other hand political analyst Basem Sakkijha believes that Sharon’s actions are his last bullets which may reach Syria or Lebanon but in a limited scale. These will be the bullets for his suicide and the formation of an independent Palestinian state.
Sakkijha ruled out the possibility of the transfer. “This is an old dream for Sharon but cannot be implemented these days for local, regional and international reasons. It is almost impossible but an internal transfer within the Palestinian territories may be possible,” said Sakkijha.
He added, “Sharon has carried out all these actions as a preparation for the forthcoming solution.” ‘The fact that Bush described Sharon as a man of peace does not give him the green light for more aggressions. Had the Americans agreed on Sharon’s acts, they would have given him the green light to kill Arafat from the first day of invasion,” said Sakkijha.
He added, “the American stance stems from the coalition between the oil and arm industry which controls the US these days as described by Al Gore Wednesday in the New York Times. This is a temporary situation due to the current local, regional and international circumstances.
Sharon’s actions have reached their peak after which there should be a descent. During this descent things will take place here and there and possibly outside Palestine.” (Albawaba.com)
