Preliminary work has begun on the piling stage of the construction of a new state-of-the-art library in Bahrain, reported the Gulf Daily News.
The library will be named after the late emir, Sheikh Issa bin Salman Al Khalifa, the paper said.
Ground engineering contractors Keller Grundbau Gulf have already moved its equipment to the site, near the Al Fateh Mosque in Juffair, and is in the process of fencing in the area and building on-site offices.
General manager Syed Muhammad Iqbal said piling was expected to start soon and could take up to four or five months.
"We began preliminary work about two or three weeks ago and are now in the final stages," he said.
"We still don't have a confirmed date for when the piling will start but it will be soon."
The project is being built with donations, but all the funds needed haven't come in yet, he said.
The 15,000-square-meter library will be able to seat 1,500 people and will include, among other facilities, a main library, a children's library, a lecture hall, a gallery and a conference hall.
It will have a car park able to accommodate 800 cars.
The library's cornerstone will be laid in November and the project is expected to be completed in the first half of 2004 – Albawaba.com
