Yemen has abolished the compulsory military service as well as exemption fees, reported the weekly Yemen Times on Tuesday.
The decision was taken by President Ali Abdullah Saleh during a cabinet meeting Monday, said the paper, adding that “volunteers can apply for military and police posts.
“The decision of abolishing the law came after Yemen settled all border conflicts with Saudi Arabia, Oman and Eritrea,” said the paper.
The cabinet also decided to decrease the number of bodyguards accompanying officials, politicians and prominent social figures – Albawaba.com
