A huge explosion rocked a Yemeni historical site frequented by Western tourists in the northeastern region of Marib on Monday, witnesses and tribal sources said.
The blast, believed to be caused by a car bomb, took place around 06:00 pm (1500 GMT) in a western suburb of Marib town, 170 kilometres east of the capital, witnesses told AFP.
Seven Spanish tourists and two Yemenis were killed as a suicide bomber rammed his explosives-laden car into their convoy, a security official told SABA news agency. Six other Spanish tourists as well as two Yemenis were injured. In Madrid, an official confirmed that six Spanish tourists were killed and seven others wounded in the incident.
