Yemen postpones parliament meeting following presidential resignation

Yemen's parliament has postponed a parliamentary meeting to address the power vaccum following the resignation of President Abdrabuh Mansur Hadi, according to AFP.

Parliament "has decided to postpone an emergency meeting set to take place on Sunday ... to another date which will be decided later to make sure all members are informed to attend," state news agency Saba reported.

But presidential adviser Sultan al-Atwani told AFP that the meeting had been delayed and that lawmakers would gather Sunday "at the earliest," because parliament had been in recess and some members were not in Sanaa.

Chaos has been unleashed in Yemen after Hadi submitted his resignation to Parliament on Thursday following a standoff with the Houthi militia who gained control of the capital, wrote AFP.

Hadi was a proponent of the West and a key ally in fighting al-Qaeda.

Thousands of Yemeni protestors have taken to the streets to protest Houthi rule.
