Thousands of protestors took to the streets in Yemen on Sunday as a U.N. Security Council delegation met to discuss national reconcilliation, AFP reported.
The protestors demanded an end to immunity given to former President Ali Abdullah Saleh, who left office under a Gulf-brokered deal in February 2012 after more than 30 years in power.
Security Council representatives held talks with President Abdrabuh Mansur Hadi and the government, according to state television.
Sana’a has struggled to organize a national dialogue conference, which would lead to a new constitution and elections in February next year, ending the two-year transitional period.
Mass protests by the Southern Movement - advocates of an independent state in southern Yemen - in recent weeks and the group’s boycott of the process have stalled the talks, which were originally set for November.
Demonstrators took to the streets of Yemen on Sunday amid tight security calling for money they said Saleh’s family had appropriated to be returned and a criminal probe into the former regime.
