Yemeni authorities have recently arrested ten suspected militants as part of the investigation into last year's bombing of the destroyer USS Cole, security sources were quoted as saying by The Associated Press on Saturday.

One of them, Ali Mohammed Omar al-Kurdi, was arrested, and his house was searched by security forces on Friday, a relative told The Associated Press.

Authorities gave no explanation for the arrest of al-Kurdi, or for the search.

The sources, who spoke on condition of anonymity, gave no details on the role those arrested may have played in the bombing attack.

The October attack, which occurred while the ship was refueling in Aden harbor, killed 17 US sailors and wounded 39.

An official at the Yemeni interior ministry declined to comment on the arrests when contacted by the agency.

Eight other men are awaiting trial in Yemen for their suspected role in the attack – Albawaba.com
