Yemeni President Ali Abdallah Saleh pleaded Wednesday for the United States to put an end to the "acts of violence" committed against the Palestinians by Israel, AFP said.
"The United States is called upon to actively intervene with the Israelis to obtain an end to the acts of violence against the Palestinians," Saleh said, while receiving the commander of US forces in the Gulf, General Tommy Franks.
"The Palestinian Intifada is a legitimate war to obtain an end to the Israeli occupation" of the Palestinian territories, Saleh said.
The two men also discussed US and Yemeni military cooperation, the agency said.
Meanwhile, Yemeni Foreign Minister Abu-Bakr Al Qerbi received Wednesday a message from his Russian counterpart, Igor Ivanov, dealing with the “crisis in the Palestinian territories and Russia’s commitment help implement resolutions of the international legitimacy and recommendations of the US former senator George Mitchell,” the official Yemeni news agency, Saba, said.
“Russia underscores the need for international intervention to stop the violence and protect Palestinians,” Ivanov said in his letter, cited by the agency.
In his remarks during the meeting, Qerbi urged the Mideast peace brokers to shoulder their responsibilities in curbing the "Israeli atrocities which hinder the peace process in the region," said Saba – Albawaba.com
