Yemen’s President Abd Rabbo Mansour Hadi returned to the city of Aden Tuesday to rally troops attempting to retake Taiz from Houthi militants, according to AFP.

Forces loyal to Hadi made gains on Monday despite some 45 fighters being killed from both sides.

“Twenty-five pro-Hadi fighters were killed in an ambush laid for them by Houthi and Saleh fources at the Bab al-Mandeb, and 20 Houthi fighters were killed in fighting and coalition airstrikes,” an unnamed medic told Reuters.

It remains uncertain how long Hadi will stay in Aden – his second trip to the port city since it was retaken by coalition forces in July.

Yemen has been engaged in a civil war between forces loyal to the exiled president, and Iran-backed Houthi rebels.
