Yemen’s National Congress Ruling party is currently considering the constitutional amendments proposed by president Ali Abdullah Saleh last August, reported Kuwait News Agency (KUNA).

MP Sultan al-Barkani, the party’s chairman, told KUNA that the party sought enhancement of democracy. He did not deny press reports that the bloc might refuse many amendments with the exception of two changes over extension of term of house speaker from four to six years, and prolonging the presidential tenure from five to seven years, according to KUNA.

Among his proposals, the Yemeni President suggested extension of parliament's term from four years to six and granting the president the power to dissolve the house without resorting to a public referendum, said KUNA – Albawaba.com
