Yemen’s Reform Congregation Party rejected Friday the constitutional amendments, which were proposed by President Ali Abdullah Saleh to the parliament two months ago, reported Kuwait News Agency (KUNA).
The party’s shura council said in a statement that the party leaders were rejecting any change that would affect the rights of the people and parliament.
The party is headed by house speaker Abdullah Ahmar.
According to the agency, the amendments include extending the president's tenure from five to seven years, as well as prolonging the parliament's term to six years instead of three.
Opposition parties have already voiced rejection to the amendments, and considered them a "coup attempt against democracy." – Albawaba.com
