Fifteen Syrian rebels were killed after the Syrian army and Hezbollah spotted them trying to sneak out of the besieged border town of Zabadani, a source told The Daily Star Wednesday.

The source, who is close to Hezbollah, said the allied forces attacked the rebels as they tried to sneak from central Zabadani to the outskirt of Sahel al-Zabadani through a tunnel Tuesday night.

Separately, three Hezbollah fighters died in Zabadani fighting over the past 24 hours, including two Tuesday and one Wednesday, the same source added.

Zabadani, located just 8 km east of Lebanon's border, has witnessed fierce clashes between the Syrian army and Hezbollah on one side and Syrian rebel groups on the other for control of the city since late June.
