Dominated by a graphic line and by a fragmentation of the compositional shape, Barbu’s artistic universe is marked by the research of the movement or more precisely, by the expression of the linear structure.
Barbu portrays the object out of the conventional frame as a fragment of the entire visual space, giving particular emphasis on light and shadow effect which according to the artist, have a constructive function over the object he portrays, and are viewed differently by the public in terms of intensity of light.
The “Mirrors” project is a product of three years artwork; an element of reflection on the social, cultural and political transformations in contemporary societies.
The work is inspired by an urban universe, in which the human being is reduced to the anonym individual, as a small piece of the incomprehensible mechanism. Far away from the nature rhythm, the modern citizen has a very strict way of living, after a rigorous schema; with a summary, but precise task. Most of the time, as an automation, the “human machine” is forced to forget its own dreams and wishes, becoming frustrated and selfish.
The project is a series of imaginary mirror reflections, focusing on faces and sometimes on parts of the body in detail, like hands for example. The “mirrors”, increasing like lenses, show us our outer image but at the same time the inside of our minds…our mental “architecture”…like masks for our characters….
