Six Senses Zighy Bay has added another accolade to its impressive portfolio by collecting a ‘Green Guardian’ award at the inaugural Oman Green Awards. The luxury eco-retreat in Oman has won countless prestigious awards and been widely commended for its commitment to sustainable tourism since it opened its doors in 2008.
At a glittering ceremony presided over by His Excellency Sayyid Hamoud Bin Faisal Al Basidi, Minister of Environment and Climate Affairs, in Muscat on 12 June, 22 prizes were presented. The preeminent Green Guardian Award is presented to the organisation that most strongly espouses the values of environmental protection, preservation and conservation through eco-friendly practices at the workplace and in the community as a whole.
Tara Hammond, Environment and Social Responsibilities Officer at the resort was delighted to accept the award on behalf of the team, commenting: “We are elated to have won the Green Guardian Award and to be viewed by experts as a best practice example of environmentally rigorous procedures within the hospitality industry. This sector is fast growing in Oman and we hope that we can demonstrate, by example, how profitability, sustainability and going green can go hand in hand”
The Awards were created in order to honour outstanding, voluntary environmental efforts by corporations and individuals in Oman, designed to motivate behavioural change and increase awareness in relation to the protection and preservation of the environment. Though substantial efforts have been made at an international level to promote the sustainable, environmentally sound use of the world’s resources, less has been done to foster these attitudes at grass-roots. As the country’s first Environmental Awards, the Oman Green Awards were created to awaken the eco-consciousness in every Omani citizen and resident, aiming to motivate behavioural change and increase awareness.
