A traveler attempting to use a false passport was arrested by the Security and Administration Unit at Beirut’s airport, a statement from the Internal Security Forces said Tuesday.

The arrest was made Friday after the ISF Intelligence Unit notified Beirut Rafic Hariri International Airport’s security that a traveller carrying a passport with the fake name Fayez Issa Shahab was attempting to leave the country.

Lebanese national B.M., 62, was arrested after boarding on a plane, minutes before its takeoff.

The suspect reportedly confessed to using a forged Civil Registry Record to get the passport with a false name, saying he needed the passport to travel to an Arab country he is banned from entering.

B.M. was referred to the judiciary, the statement added.
