Justice For Mahsa Amini: Protests Turn Violent in Iran

Published September 22nd, 2022 - 10:47 GMT

Protesters hit the streets of Iran, Friday, after the announcement of the death of an Iranian woman called Mahsa Amini, 22, who was killed by the morality police for wearing the Hijab in an incorrect way.

Eleven were killed in the latest protests, including four security personnel. During the rallies, protesters chanted slogans against the Iranian government and the Islamic regime. "Death to the dictator," people were heard saying.

Human rights groups said the latest protests across Iran could signal "a big change". The death of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini on September 16th, 2022 has triggered wide anger in the country and abroad as many famous celebrities denounced her death and called for a full investigation into the case.

Protests were also held outside the Iranian embassy in Turkey to denounce the death of Mahsa Amini at the hands of morality police last week. Kurdish and Lebanese women rallied in Beirut on September 21, 2022, days after the Iranian authorities announced her death.
