Approximately 30 celebrities have petitioned the United Nations in an effort to mobilize the U.N. to take immediate action to protect civilians inside Syria.
The letter was signed mainly by British stars including Hugh Grant, Emma Thompson, Roger Waters, and Sting.
The celebrities are urging the U.N. Security Council and presidents of the General Assembly to create safe spaces and local ceasefires so emergency supplies can reach civilians trapped by fighting.
The group responsible for the letter is especially concerned about Palestinian refugees inside Syria.
Nearly 40,000 Palestinian refugees remain trapped in a refugee camp in Yarmouk on the outskirts of Damascus. As recent pictures have shown, the Palestinians inside Yarmouk live in abject conditions.
“People and relief must be let through. We want our voices to carry, on behalf of those now suffering in Syria, in order to prevent any more tragedy,” said the letter.
The Syrian civil war has raged for four years, leaving millions displaced and at least 140,000 dead.
