ALBAWABA - Avichay Adraee, an Israeli army spokesman, was suddenly seen on the X platform, formerly known as Twitter, without his verification check.
Social media users posted a screenshot showing the account of Adraee, the head of the Arab media division of the IDF Spokesperson's Unit, with his X account with no blue mark.
Many questioned why Elon Musk, owner of the X platform, removed the verification mark from the account of Avichay Adraee, which has over 513,000 followers.
Many theories were made online as some attributed the removal of the verification mark to the new Israeli war in Gaza and the many posts that Adraee shared regarding this recent conflict.
Meanwhile, other social media users allegedly said that since Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla, was accused by some activists recently of attempting to curb pro-Palestinian content.
Earlier this week, X and its owner Elon Musk were accused of following META's policy in restricting and targeting content that supports Palestine.
Jackson Hinkle, a pro-Palestinian activist, said: "Hi @elonmusk, X appears to have a glitch where within a few seconds I lose 2,000+ followers out of nowhere. I’m sure this has NOTHING to do with me EXPOSING ZIONIST LIES — please advise!"
Nevertheless, journalist Ben Norton posted a video saying that X is banning people from following a pro-Palestine account, called Palestine Action US.
In a post, Norton explained: "This is crazy: Twitter / X is preventing people from following the account @Pal_ActionUS, which advocates for Palestinian human rights and opposes Israeli apartheid and colonialism."
He added: "Every time you follow the account, as soon as you refresh the page, the app unfollows it."
