ALBAWABA - The wife of ousted Syrian President Bashar Assad, Asma has been given a "50/50" chance of survival after being diagnosed with leukemia, a type of cancer that affects the blood and bone marrow, as reported by the Telegraph.

Moreover, Asma Assad has been placed in isolation to prevent her from contracting infections and other diseases. Her father, Fawaz Akhras was taking care of her in Moscow, Russia but appeared to be "heartbroken" according to sources close to her family.

Another source said that "Asma is dying" and added that "She can’t be in the same room with anyone."

According to the Russian news agency TASS, Russia's President Vladimir Putin agreed to grant Bashar Assad and his family including his children and wife safety in Moscow, after the opposition army led by commander Abu Mohammed al-Golani took over Syria.

This May, Syria's presidency announced that Asma Assad was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia. Despite defeating the vicious disease, Asma was recently re-diagnosed with it with one source claiming that "when leukemia comes back, it’s vicious."

Additionally, she was also diagnosed with breast cancer in the past but recovered from it.

Bashar Assad and Asma's divorce

Days after the ousting of Bashar Assad and his government, unconfirmed reports have been emerging claiming that Asma Assad, the wife of the former Syrian leader, has filed for divorce.

Turkish and British media allegedly claimed that if Asma Assad gained the divorce she could travel to London to live with her family.
