ALBAWABA -The House of Representatives in Berlin, Germany has recently voted in favor of banning Hamas' famous red triangle which they use during their videos to identify Israeli soldiers whom they're targeting, according to Al Jazeera.
The News was first shared exclusively on Al Jazeera on Jul. 6, 2024. it was The Christian Democratic Union (CDU) and the Social Democratic Party (SPD) specifically who urgently called for the ban which did secure a majority vote during the parliament's general session.
On the other hand, Germany's Green and Left parties abstained from voting.
Berlin Parliament votes on banning Hamas red triangle
According to Al Mayadeen, Vasili Franco who belongs to the Green Party stated that the party abstained from voting because total bans are a breach of freedom of speech. Left Party's Niklas Schrader also agreed with the Green Party's decision.
Moreover, he added that the red triangle is used by organizations other than Hamas and said, "If one wants to put the triangle under penalty, one must clearly distinguish it."
Users on X took to Al Jazeera's post and voiced their opinions on the matter:
"Germany is a country that is occupied more than Palestine."
"Germany after 1945 changed into a zionist country."
Many others spammed the red triangle in the comment section to get back at the voting.
