ALBAWABA - As tensions between the US and Iran escalate, the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) took to X (formerly Twitter) with a post guiding Iranian protestors on how to contact them privately and securely.

The CIA wrote in Persian, "Hello. The Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) can hear your voice and wants to help you. Below is the necessary guidance on how to securely contact us virtually," followed by a two-minute video with an eight-step how-to guide.

In the second step, the US agency advised Iranians to avoid using their office computers or phones and instead use a new or disposable device, and to remain aware of their surroundings.

The agency added, "Use the latest version of foreign internet browsers," including Chrome, Firefox, and Safari, urging viewers to turn on incognito or private browsing features.

However, the CIA prefers that Iranians use a trusted VPN service or the Tor browser. The agency wrote in Persian, "To enhance your security, the preferred method of contacting us is by using a trusted, non-local VPN service or the Tor (Tor) network service. Without following these steps, your visit to any website may be monitored by security or intelligence services, or other third parties."

This comes after massive anti-regime protests erupted across Iran against Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and the Islamic regime. Videos of the protests flooded social media, with human rights activists dubbing the event the "2026 Iranian Revolution."

According to the US-based Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA), the anti-regime protests led to the killing of over 7,000 Iranian protestors and the detention of more than 52,941 people. Moreover, more than  214 security personnel were killed across the country.
