ALBAWABA - Syria's new leader Ahmed al-Sharaa, previously known as Abu Mohammad al-Golani recently went viral on the internet after several social media users pointed out that the former militant was reportedly wearing luxurious designer shoes from "John Lobb."

According to John Lobb's official website, the luxurious shoes would've cost Abu Mohammad al-Golani approximately $1,000 if the rumors in question were true, resulting in a swarm of criticism from several Syrian social media users due to the state of the country right now.

What gave out the speculations about Al-Golani's shoes, were their similarities to John Lobb's "iconic double buckle style" of its William Monk shoes.

According to John Lobb's website and other designer websites, the shoes in question can go up to $1,800 depending on the availability, country, and season.

One user wrote in Arabic on Musk's X (formerly known as Twitter), "These shoes cost $1,004... I just want to know how you can afford them despite only just taking over Syria. You still haven't received your salary yet..."

This all comes in after former Syrian president Bashar Assad was ousted on Dec. 8, 2024, by the rebellion army, led by Al-Golani, and fled from Damascus to Moscow with his family including his wife Asma who is currently suffering from a relapse of Leukemia, a type of cancer that affects blood tissue and bone marrow.
