ALBAWABA - Claims recently flooded social media, stating that Iran has reportedly arrested 400 Afghan spies working for Israel's Mossad at a secret underground drone facility near the IRGC (Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps) headquarters in Tehran.
According to Clingendael, there are approximately five to eight million Afghan immigrants residing in Iran as of March 2025. However, it's reported that only 2.5 million of them are officially registered with the Iranian government.
According to several Israeli reports, Israel spent years preparing against Iran's nuclear and missile operations by having the Mossad and IDF collaborate in building a hidden drone base aimed at smuggling weapons and commandos into Iran.
The IDF dubbed the operation "Rising Lion".
While new reports revealed that Iran has recently foiled a Mossad operation linked to an underground drone facility, the number of individuals involved remains unknown. Additionally, several social media users slammed the reports, deeming them false and baseless.
Did Iran capture 400 Afghan spies working for Mossad?
The claims in question were shared by several X users, including an individual named "Huzaifah Farid," who shared two videos as "evidence" and wrote in the caption:
"Iran arrests 400 Afghans who were working for Mossad at a secret underground drone facility near the headquarters of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard."
A social media user responded on X (formerly known as Twitter), "They look like residency violators, but these aren't the faces of agents. The first one looks like a child. Mossad might have recruited him with the promise of a job."
Another added, "Iran is floundering. It is unreasonable to have 400 agents in one place. This is a figment of the imagination."
