Three weeks after an online campaign to get a serial rapist arrested in Egypt, local activists took to social media yet another time to "expose" a gang of rapists who had lured a 17-year-old girl into a reputable hotel in 2014, before they took turns raping her and taping the incident.
URGENT CALL-OUT| We are investigating the alleged crime known as the #fairmontincident & #جريمه_الفيرمونت along with other related alleged sexual crimes regarding this incident and its alleged perpetrators.

According to several social media accounts, a group of six young men "all coming from well-off families with connections to people in power" had drugged the young girl before raping her in the Fairmont Hotel in Cairo, six years ago. The young men have reportedly "signed their names on her body at that time and taped the incident to use against the girl in case she spoke up."

Using the trending hashtags #جريمة_الفيرمونت and #fairmontincident, photos and names of attackers have been widely shared before some popular feminist accounts announced they will take all the information down as they received death threats from people connected to the six offenders.

However, digital commentators continued to tweet using the hashtags that have been trending for the last few days, demanding the government to take strict actions against rapists, including those hailing from high-class and privileged backgrounds.
Additionally, online people called on Egyptian women to speak up about similar assaults and to seize the moment to push for social and legal reforms that limit rape crimes.
We hear and support woman and will NOT allow a gang of rapists with whatever connections they have to silence us. SPEAK UP AND TWEET THE HASHTAG!#fairmontincident#جريمه_الفيرمونت pic.twitter.com/CDeBEzJmGQ
