ALBAWABA - Quds Force chief Esmail Qaani makes first public appearance at the funeral of slain general Abbas Nilforoushan in Tehran.
Abbas Nilforoushan was killed on September 27, 2024, in the same strike that targeted Hezbollah's secretary-general Hassan Nasrallah in the southern suburb of Beirut.
According to Iranian media, the funeral procession for Nilforoushan, Iran's Revolutionary Guards commander, started at the Imam Hossein Square in Tehran on Tuesday after his body was transferred from Lebanon to Iraq's Baghdad then Tehran.
A commemorating service was held for the IRGC commander in Karbala before he was sent to Iran for the final station to be buried.
What is most shocking at the funeral of Nilforoushan, according to netizens, was the appearance of the Quds Force chief. Rumors spread about Esmail Qaani where many claimed he was killed in an Israeli airstrike in Lebanon.
IRGC sources denied his assassination rumors days after the allegations were made on social media. However, despite denial, many allegedly said that Qaani is being investigated over IRGC members in Lebanon linked to being spies for Israel.
This was the first public appearance for Qaani, but he also raised many speculations when he was spotted in civil clothes at the funeral of a military commander. Esmail was seen whipping his tears.
Yesterday, a selfie picture was posted on social media showing Qaani with an IRIB Reporter at Mehrabad International Airport in Tehran.
