ALBAWABA - A picture of a rare creature on the shores of Oregon state has taken the internet by storm with many doubting the truth behind it.

The fish's unusual shape has sparked much attention and attracted fishers and cameras towards it with many questioning its type which was never seen before after it was washed up on Oregon's northern coast.

The creature is 2.2 meters and it turned out to be a hoodwinker sunfish. It first was spotted on a beach in Gearhart on Monday, the Seaside Aquarium revealed in a media release.

According to the statement, the rare fish is expected to remain on the beach for weeks considering that "it is difficult for scavengers to puncture its tough skin," local media reported.

In the photos which circulated online a flat, round, grey fish was spotted with many people gathered around, however, the first to detect that this rare creature was in fact a "hoodwinker sunfish" type was the New Zealand-based researcher Marianne Nyegaard.

Nyegaard is specialized in sunfish studies. He had contacted the aquarium to share his experience.
