ALBAWABA - Iraq's special forces, which were years ago fighting the Islamic State (ISIS), have now taken a new mission to protect US food chains in the country causing controversy across Iraq.

Since the Israeli-aggressive war in Gaza during which 37,372 Palestinians have been killed, many pro-Palestinians attacked multiple American fast food chains over their support of the Israeli government.

Authorities in Baghdad have asked Iraqi Special Operations Forces to make regular patrols to protect American food chains amid anger over the Israeli war in Gaza and the American stance on the war.

Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) was among the food chains that were subjected to multiple attacks by pro-Palestinian protesters.

In early June, Iraqi security forces announced arresting 12 people who were linked to the latest attacks on a KFC branch, it also added that three others were wounded in the operation, Reuters reported.

It is worth noting that KFC, McDonald's and many other food chains and US brands are subjected to a harsh boycott campaign amid the deadliest war in the Gaza Strip.

Boycott by pro-Palestinian activists has been affecting the revenues of key brands including McDonald's and Starbucks. Nonetheless, KFC was forced to close 108 branches in Malaysia.
