ALBAWABA - In his interview with CNN's Christiane Amanpour, ICC Chief Prosecutor Karim Khan said that a high-profile US official told him the ICC is built exclusively for entities and persons like Africa and Putin.

Quoting the US Official, Khan said that he told him "this court is built for Africa and thugs like Putin" insinuating that the court could be unable to prosecute Israeli war criminals.

Earlier this week the ICC chief announced is seeking arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar on allegations of war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza.

The ICC announcement triggered several reactions from leaders, who are considered in the bullseye of the arrest warrants list. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated that the ICC arrest warrants against senior Israeli government and military officials would be an outrage of historic proportions.

A number of US senators signed a letter warning against any legal action taken indicting Israeli officials concerning the ongoing brutal aggression on Gaza.

The United States and Israel are not ICC members. Nevertheless, the International Criminal Court (ICC) proclaims its authority over Gaza, East Jerusalem, and the West Bank following the formal 2015 agreement by Palestinian authorities to be bound by the fundamental rules of the court.

Social media users did not hesitate to express their opinions regarding the US official's statement to Khan, one user took to X, formerly Twitter, to say: "They can never preach International law, democracy, and justice to me," @MusaFKDarboe.

X user (@Z48697522) mocked the US statement: "Not surprising but as long as the US doesn't ban money in politics limiting candidate donations, this will go on".

User Dan Hilton (@DanHilt70032640) said: "I did hear what Mr.Khan had to say about that and was shocked that a U.S. official would say such a thing.
Lobbying and bribery should be outlawed. …if it isn’t a country is not a democracy at all but a plutocracy…"
